In an electrical schematic, symbols are used to represent basic components, and lines drawn between them indicate connections.

When two or more lines meet each other, there is a connection (as in example 1). In example 2 the line A dips as it passes BC, this indicates that A does not make contact with BC.

Ratings for components are written by the side of their symbols.
